Rules

  • • Black plays first; players alternate placing stones on empty intersections.
  • • Surround an opponent's group completely to remove its last liberty and capture it.
  • • You may not play a move that leaves your own group with no liberties (suicide).
  • • The ko rule forbids immediately recapturing a single stone to repeat the previous position.
  • • Pass when you have no useful moves; two passes in a row end the game and score territory.

White receives a 6.5 point komi bonus for playing second.
